HOW TO: Install A
Garage Door Opener

Issue #312 - April 2009
A new garage door opener might be in order if your current one is more than five years old. The updated openers feature state-of-the-art technology that offers more convenient features than ever, like wireless, keyless entry and standby power systems that ensure operation even when your power fails.

But more important, safety and security features are also better than ever. Federal law mandates that all new openers reverse the door if it hits an object. Most models include an infrared beam system that reverses

the door if anything crosses the beam while the door is operating.

For better security, new openers also feature rolling code technology that changes the code every time the opener is used. Rolling codes are vastly better than the old fixed codes, which could be stolen by anyone near your house with a code grabber device.

If you’ve decided the time is right for a new model, we’ll help you decide which opener is right for you and explain how the parts of an opener work. We’ll also take a look at the general installation process and point out some things to watch for so your installation goes smoothly and safely.
