#310 - December 2008
In most homes, the kitchen is the place where everyone — and everything — gathers. Calendars and note boards get stuck on the fridge; pens and calculators get shoved into “junk” drawers; and keys and mail get piled on the counter. Together, they can quickly turn an otherwise tidy kitchen into a cluttered mess.
Thankfully, many cabinet manufacturers now offer “organizer” cabinets that are designed to corral all that clutter. If you plan to install new cabinets, incorporating one of these organizers is a great idea.
But what can you do if you’re not |
remodeling? Chances are your existing cabinets are chock-full already, and it’s rarely easy to find space for another cabinet in an existing layout.
That’s why we came up with this message center that can easily be added onto the end of an existing run of wall cabinets. As you can see in the Photo above, it’s just a shallow box with a shelf inside. This small cabinet holds a lot, though, such as a calendar, dry-erase board, mail, keys, and much more. It even has a galvanized metal back panel, so you can stick notes up using magnets.
By building it out of a matching wood (oak in our case), and then staining and finishing it to match the existing cabinets, you can make it blend right in. In fact, with the door closed, you can hardly even tell this cabinet is there. |
